The Consumer Rights Act 2015 came into force on 1 October 2015, bringing with it a new wave of rights for those dissatisfied with something they have bought.
Refunds must now be given for goods which become faulty within 30 days, and the right to a refund also extends to second hand goods (if bought from a retailer) and to services, which must now be carried out with “reasonable care”.
A new Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme, touted as a cost-free alternative to the Small Claims procedure, has also been brought in. However, with many retailers yet to sign up to the scheme, it remains to be seen how effective this will be.
